The documentary Secret Story (aired on Mnet) first introduced Secret to the public. The show chronicled the debut process of the members of Secret and aired their invitation-only debut showcase, which took place on September 29, 2009.
On October 13, 2009, Secret officially debuted with the release of the music video of "I Want You Back", their debut single. Two days later on October 15, 2009, they had their first live stage on Mnet M! Countdown.
Secret gained popularity due to polished vocals and strong stage presence. The group quickly became the #1 searched phrase on various online portal sites.
Secret participated in the God of Study OST with the song "Friends", released on January 23, 2010.

2010

Magic

On March 31, 2010, Secret released the music video for "Magic", the title track of their debut mini album "Secret Time". Due to printing errors, the physical copies were delayed for five days, but the digital release went as scheduled. Secret had its comeback performance for "Magic" on Mnet M! Countdown on April 8, 2010. The song peaked at #5 on the KBS Music Bank K-Chart.
The music video quickly reached one million views on video sharing sites such as YouTube and Cyworld, and the "Suspender Dance" which appeared in the video, gained popularity amongst netizens.

Madonna

 2011

Shy Boy

Secret released their first single called "Shy Boy" on January 6, 2011. The song has a "swing dance" concept with outfits, hairstyles, and a set that draws inspiration from 1950s American culture. Additionally, comedian Son Heon Su makes a surprise appearance in the music video as a player. The teaser for "Shy Boy" was released on January 2, 2011, followed by the full music video on January 5, 2011. The title track "Shy Boy" was co-produced by Kang Ji Won and Kim Ki Bum, and the music video was directed by Johnny Bro’s Hong Won Ki.

At first, members of Secret were depressed over the concept of Shy Boy as it was not as strong as those of previous songs. Zinger was especially shocked and confused, unable to embrace the "cute" concept, as she was known to fit the hip-hop genre. However, the song exceeded expectations and maintained its position at the top of three major music charts five days into its release.

Secret made its comeback stage on Mnet M! Countdown on January 6, 2011. The next week, on January 13, 2011, Secret won its first first-place award on M! Countdown, and burst out with tears of joy. Roughly a month later, on February 11, the girls won their first ever first-place award on Music Bank. However, the girls were unable to receive their award on stage because of the cancellation of Music Bank on Lunar New Year. The following two weeks, "Shy Boy" continued to dominate the Music Bank K-Chart, and in the end, Secret managed to achieve a three-week consecutive #1 win. During that timespan, Secret also won their first ever "Mutizen" award on Inkigayo on February 20, 2011. Internationally, "Shy Boy" was #1 for three weeks on the Soompi Music Chart..[2] After two months, Secret closed promotions for "Shy Boy" with its last performance on Inkigayo on February 27, 2011, even though the song was still going strong on music charts.

On March 19, 2011, Secret had a surprise performance of "Shy Boy" at the GOMTV Global Starcraft II League Finals.

Jieun solo

On February 26, 2011, TS Entertainment revealed that Jieun would be releasing her solo debut single, "Going Crazy" on March 3, 2011.[3] The teaser for "Going Crazy" was released on February 28, 2011 and the full music video was released on March 2, 2011. The song features rapper Bang Yong Guk. The song was co-produced by Kang Ji Won and Kim Ki Bum, and is of the hip-hop/R&B genre. It combines Jieun’s sorrow vocals and Bang Yong Guk’s strong voice, with a distinct piano rhythm that permeates the song with an imposing sound. The music video also stars actress Min Hyo Rin.

TS Entertainment initially expected average popularity for the song. However, "Going Crazy" dominated online music charts as soon as it was released and topped Gaon Chart’s top 100 digital chart for the third week of March. Jieun had her comeback stage on Mnet M! Countdown on March 3, 2011. On April she ended her promotions and had her Good Bye stages for Mnet M! Countdown, Inkigayo, Mucsic Core, and Music Bank.[4]
