T-ara Album

Pre-debut
The original five T-ara members were trained for three years, and released their first song "좋은 사람" (Good Person) for the Korean drama Cinderella Man soundtrack. In early 2009, Jiyeon was in a collaboration with SeeYa and Davichi for project single called "여성시대" (Women's Generation).[citation needed]
In June 2009, Core Contents Media announced that Ji-ae and Ji-won left due to differences in music style. Soyeon, Boram and Qri were added. Later, it was revealed that Soyeon was originally cast to be a part of Girl's Generation (SNSD), but six months prior to her debut Soyeon withdrew from the group due to personal circumstances. Her stint away from the music industry was relatively short as she quickly joined T-ara following open auditions to replace the ex-members[4] . The group's agency began to release promotional pictures in July 2009 in accordance with the new members. Afterward, T-ara released their debut single "거짓말" (Lies).

Debut and Absolute First Album (2009)
T-ara made its debut on MBC's Radio Star talk show on July 28, 2009.[5] The music video was released that day. Their first performance was on Mnet's M! Countdown show, where they performed "Lies" and "Wanna Play?". Their debut was looked upon negatively by netizens, who noted that it was lipsynched and commented that it seemed like an elementary school performance.[6] The group announced afterward that future performances would be live.[7] A few members of T-ara (Eunjung, Soyeon, Hyomin and Park Ji-Yeon) were in a project group with Supernova, a six member male group for the digital single, TTL (Time to Love). The single TTL became the girls first number 1 as it topped many of the online charts. On December 1, 2009, T-ara released their first full-length album, named Absolute First Album. This album had two singles, "Bo Peep Bo Peep" and "Like The First Time" and both with music videos.

Breaking Heart and Temptastic (2010)
On January 1, 2010, T-ara won their first ever award on the New Year's Day episode of Music Bank for their hit song "Bo Peep Bo Peep". Two days later, they won the Mutizen award on Inkigayo. The following week, T-ara won their second consecutive Music Bank and Mutizen awards. The following week, T-ara won their third consecutive mutizen award.
Later in the month, Core Contents Media announced that Eunjung and Hyomin would take part, alongside label mates, in project group, 'Wonder Woman'. Consequently, the group announced promotions for their follow up single, "Like The First Time" (Korean: "처음처럼").
In February, the group announce the release of a repackaged version of their debut album, entitled Breaking Heart. The music video for its lead single, "I Go Crazy Because of You" (Korean: "너 때문에 미쳐"), was released on February 24, 2010. The group commenced comeback performances with Mnet's M!Countdown. After promotions for "I Go Crazy Because of You", T-ara promoted the next single off the repackaged album titled "I'm Really Hurt" (Korean: "내가 너무 아파").
On November 23, 2010 T-ara released a new music video for their song "Why Are You Being Like This" (Korean: "왜 이러니").[8] The group then began promotions with their new 7th member, Hwayoung, and a new leader, Boram. It was later officially revealed that the mini-album's title track would be titled "Yayaya". T-ara received two consecutive wins for "Yayaya" on Mnet M! Countdown on December 9, 2010 and December 16, 2010 respectively.

2011–present: New album & Japanese debut
T-ara wrapped up Temptastic promotions during January and a new album is being prepared. According to member Eun Jung, she mentioned on KBS Saeng Saeng Entertainment that T-ara is currently preparing for their next album which she revealed a comeback in May. Also, they will advance to the Japan market soon too after their album release. [9]

Brown Eyed Girls Album

Debut

According to leader Jea, Jea herself went around and searched for the other members of BEG. The first member Jea picked out was Miryo, who was known as a great female rapper from the hip-hop community. Miryo previously worked with other fellow rappers, such as Gil Seong-joon from Leessang, and the main female rapper in well-known hip-hop group Honey Family. Narsha was chosen when Jea remembered her as "talented singer" from her high school days. Ga-in was selected by the three members after she was eliminated from "Battle Shin Hwa". According to Ga-in, she was crying in the bathroom after failing the audition, was found by composer Ahn Jung Hoon, and then was chosen through the audition in Brown Eyed Girls' company. The four members held several small size concerts, and was actually known as "Crescendo" before officially debuting as "Brown Eyed Girls".[citation needed]
After more than 3 years of training in singing and holding several small size concerts, the Brown Eyed Girls (sometimes abbreviated as "BEG") released their debut album Your Story in South Korea in February 2006. The album was well-received critically but did not do as well as expected commercially.[citation needed] However, it did spawn their hit debut single "Come Closer" (다가와서), which became a minor hit throughout Korea. The album was later re-released to include "Hold The Line" (which samples "Push The Button" by British girl band Sugababes and "Technologic" by Daft Punk). This song also became a hit, further boosting the band's popularity. "Hold the Line" was disclosed across the world because it was included in the list of songs from the game Pump it Up.
After a short break, the group went back into the studio to work on their second album Leave Ms. Kim (떠나라 미스김), which included the single "You Got Me Fooled" (너에게 속았다). Subsequent singles were "Oasis" (오아시스) featuring Lee Jae Hoon and "It's Mine" (내꺼야), a collaboration with fellow group SeeYa.
During the break between their debut and second albums, the Brown Eyed Girls released their first digital single entitled "I Am a Summer" (내가 여름이다), which was later included in their second LP.
The first two albums contained typical R&B ballads which had been very popular in the K-pop scene.[citation needed] However, the commercial success was relatively higher in two singles between the first and second albums.[citation needed] "Hold the Line" and "Oasis" can be categorized as dance and retropop, respectively. Moreover, the second album containing "You Got Me Fooled" (너에게 속았다) was released at nearly the same time as Wonder Girls' "Tell Me" which received a nationwide success in Korea. Therefore, their second album was once again a commercial disappointment.[citation needed] At the same time, the general K-pop scene was changing from R&B ballads to dance music.[citation needed]

2008: With Love and My Style mini albums
In January 2008, the group released their first mini album With Love. The first single taken from the mini-album was "Love", which became an instant hit in South Korea, making the girls a household name.[citation needed] "Love Action" was the second single taken from the mini album and was another hit for the group. With Love also marked the group's second digital album (after "I Am a Summer"), though it was released in conventional CD format as well. After the release of their first mini-album, they could achieve the commercial success.[citation needed] "Love" was composed by Saint-Binary and Min-Soo Lee.
In September 2008, the "Brown Eyed Girls released their second mini-album in My Style. Their new single "How Come" (어쩌다) became their biggest hit of 2008, topping many music charts. After promotion for "How Come" ended, they released the 3-track follow-up My Hidden Style, which included the single "My Style", a remake of their hit "Love". Both "My Style" and "How Come" were successful singles. Their second mini album, My Style contained "How Come". It also contained "You", which was composed by Saint-Binary and Min-Soo Lee.

2009–present: Sound G
On July 20, 2009, the Brown Eyed Girls released their third full-length album, the double-disc Sound G . Even though "Candy Man" was the first song unveiled from the album, the first heavily promoted single was "Abracadabra"- The release of this album also saw a shift in the image of the group, as the members redefined themselves as independent and mature city girls, which is a trend with many K-Pop groups.
The release of the "Abracadabra" music video sparked controversy. As the group is sporting a substantially more provocative visual style, criticism has arisen for the suggestive and erotic themes that the video presents. They later released a "stage version" of the video, which focuses only on the choreography. "Abracadabra" was composed by Ji-nu and Min-Soo Lee. Ji-nu was a famous bassist in the legendary acid-jazz band in Korea, Roller Coaster. After the disband of Roller Coaster, Jinu became a famous DJ regarding electronic music. He composed the first part of "Abracadabra", and tried to compose the refrain part. However, he could not think of a good idea to make the refrain part. Therefore, Min-Soo Lee, who worked with BEG previously, helped and composed the refrain part of "Abracadabra".
The Brown Eyed Girls revealed a repackaged version of the album titled Sign that included a new single, "Sign", along with "Drunk On Sleep" and a remix of their previous hit "Abracadabra". The repackaged album was released along with the music video for "Sign". The music video caused controversy because of its content, it featured scenes of violence and death, including Ga-In drowning in a tank of water. "Sign" has reached certain success, but it has not matched the success of the band's previous single "Abracadabra".
In August 2010, the group re-released Sound G in Japanese to promote them in the country . Also, a new music video was filmed for the Japanese version of "Sign". Its content is completely different from the original Korean version of the song, since the new version focuses on choreography while the original version did not feature any.
After the success of the album, two members were selected for popular variety shows in Korea. Ga-in has appeared on We Got Married with 2AM's Jo Kwon since September 2009. The couple is very popular in Korea and is one of the most recognized virtual couples in the country. Narsha (who also made a solo debut in 2010) has appeared on Invincible Youth (also known as G7) since October 2009. She is known on the show as "Sung In Dol" (Adult idol) due to her age difference with other members and her funny, but naughty reactions on the show.

2011
On January 17, the Japanese music video for "Sign" was released. [2] The group is planning to begin promotions in Japan in early 2011. [3]
Meanwhile, the group is planning a Korean comeback, and their fourth studio album was rumored to be released on March 2011 however the stated release date of the album is found to be untrue but the group is actually in the midst on their preparaton for their comeback {tentatively set for June 2011}.[4]

Other musical efforts
The girls have also been featured on several South Korean Drama soundtracks. Including The Vineyard Man (Loving You), Queen of Games (독한 사랑), Dae Jo Yeong (대조영), The Kingdom of The Winds (다애), My Fair Lady (I Love You), and Chuno (Me-Ah).
JeA also participated in OST songs even before Brown Eyed Girls' debut.
Also, Miryo and JeA collaborated for the single "Love Is..." which was released in May of 2010.

Secret Album.

2009

The documentary Secret Story (aired on Mnet) first introduced Secret to the public. The show chronicled the debut process of the members of Secret and aired their invitation-only debut showcase, which took place on September 29, 2009.
On October 13, 2009, Secret officially debuted with the release of the music video of "I Want You Back", their debut single. Two days later on October 15, 2009, they had their first live stage on Mnet M! Countdown.
Secret gained popularity due to polished vocals and strong stage presence. The group quickly became the #1 searched phrase on various online portal sites.
Secret participated in the God of Study OST with the song "Friends", released on January 23, 2010.

2010

Magic

On March 31, 2010, Secret released the music video for "Magic", the title track of their debut mini album "Secret Time". Due to printing errors, the physical copies were delayed for five days, but the digital release went as scheduled. Secret had its comeback performance for "Magic" on Mnet M! Countdown on April 8, 2010. The song peaked at #5 on the KBS Music Bank K-Chart.
The music video quickly reached one million views on video sharing sites such as YouTube and Cyworld, and the "Suspender Dance" which appeared in the video, gained popularity amongst netizens.

Madonna
Secret released their second mini album titled "Madonna" on August 12, 2010. The title track was also named "Madonna," and the music video for "Madonna" was released on August 11, 2010. They made their comeback on Mnet M! Countdown on August 12, 2010.
Just as that of "Magic", the music video for "Madonna" reached one million views on video sharing sites such as YouTube and Cyworld. "Madonna" was better received than "Magic", topping every major online music chart within two weeks and peaking at #4 on the KBS Music Bank K-Chart. On December 9, 2010, Secret attended the 25th Golden Disk Awards, and won the Newcomer Award.

 2011

Shy Boy

Secret released their first single called "Shy Boy" on January 6, 2011. The song has a "swing dance" concept with outfits, hairstyles, and a set that draws inspiration from 1950s American culture. Additionally, comedian Son Heon Su makes a surprise appearance in the music video as a player. The teaser for "Shy Boy" was released on January 2, 2011, followed by the full music video on January 5, 2011. The title track "Shy Boy" was co-produced by Kang Ji Won and Kim Ki Bum, and the music video was directed by Johnny Bro’s Hong Won Ki.

At first, members of Secret were depressed over the concept of Shy Boy as it was not as strong as those of previous songs. Zinger was especially shocked and confused, unable to embrace the "cute" concept, as she was known to fit the hip-hop genre. However, the song exceeded expectations and maintained its position at the top of three major music charts five days into its release.

Secret made its comeback stage on Mnet M! Countdown on January 6, 2011. The next week, on January 13, 2011, Secret won its first first-place award on M! Countdown, and burst out with tears of joy. Roughly a month later, on February 11, the girls won their first ever first-place award on Music Bank. However, the girls were unable to receive their award on stage because of the cancellation of Music Bank on Lunar New Year. The following two weeks, "Shy Boy" continued to dominate the Music Bank K-Chart, and in the end, Secret managed to achieve a three-week consecutive #1 win. During that timespan, Secret also won their first ever "Mutizen" award on Inkigayo on February 20, 2011. Internationally, "Shy Boy" was #1 for three weeks on the Soompi Music Chart..[2] After two months, Secret closed promotions for "Shy Boy" with its last performance on Inkigayo on February 27, 2011, even though the song was still going strong on music charts.

On March 19, 2011, Secret had a surprise performance of "Shy Boy" at the GOMTV Global Starcraft II League Finals.

Jieun solo

On February 26, 2011, TS Entertainment revealed that Jieun would be releasing her solo debut single, "Going Crazy" on March 3, 2011.[3] The teaser for "Going Crazy" was released on February 28, 2011 and the full music video was released on March 2, 2011. The song features rapper Bang Yong Guk. The song was co-produced by Kang Ji Won and Kim Ki Bum, and is of the hip-hop/R&B genre. It combines Jieun’s sorrow vocals and Bang Yong Guk’s strong voice, with a distinct piano rhythm that permeates the song with an imposing sound. The music video also stars actress Min Hyo Rin.

TS Entertainment initially expected average popularity for the song. However, "Going Crazy" dominated online music charts as soon as it was released and topped Gaon Chart’s top 100 digital chart for the third week of March. Jieun had her comeback stage on Mnet M! Countdown on March 3, 2011. On April she ended her promotions and had her Good Bye stages for Mnet M! Countdown, Inkigayo, Mucsic Core, and Music Bank.[4]

Girls' Generation Album

2007–2008: Debut and First Album

In July 2007, Girls' Generation had their unofficial first stage performance on M.Net's School of Rock where the group performed their first single, titled Into the New World (다시 만난 세계, Dasi Mannan Segye). A documentary recording the story of the group's debut titled M.Net's Girls Go To School was filmed during this time, showing the members as they moved into an apartment together and prepared for their performances. The group's first single was physically released soon after, including an instrumental of the group's debut song and two other tracks; "Beginning" and "Perfect for You". The latter's Korean title is "Wish" (소원, SoWon), which later became the name of Girls' Generation's official fan-club (stylized: S♡NE). The group's debut officially began on August 5, 2007, first performing on SBS's Inkigayo and then later on MBC's Show! Music Core and KBS's Music Bank. Into the New World achieved #1 spot on M.net M.Countdown!.
The group released their first self-titled full album in late autumn 2007 with the lead single Girls' Generation (소녀시대), a remake of Lee Seung-cheol's 1989 song. Promotion for the single started in early November. The album also included the group's first single Into the New World, Perfect For You retitled as Honey, and 8 other tracks by the group. In early 2008, Girls' Generation began promoting their second single from the album, Kissing You, which won the group their first k-chart win after getting the number one position on the KBS Music Bank February chart.[4]
In March 2008, the album was re-packaged, re-released and re-titled Baby Baby. A third single, Baby Baby, was used to promote the album. During the group's promotions, members Jessica, Tiffany and Seohyun were also featured on a mini-album released by Roommate, a one-man band from Purple Communication. The mini-album was titled Roommate: Emotional Band Aid, and was released on December 1, 2008. The 3rd track from the mini-album was performed by the 3 Girls' Generation members and is titled Oppa Nappa (오빠 나빠, literally Bad Brother. The track was digitally released before the album was, coming out in April 2008. The song was performed live on SBS Inkigayo and M.net's M.countdown some time later.[5][6] Later in the year the three members released "Mabinogi (It's Fantastic!)" together as the theme song for the Nexon game Mabinogi, with Tiffany participating in the music video.[7]
M.net's reality show Factory Girl chronicled the members working as interns at fashion magazine Elle Girl.[8] The articles the group worked on were featured in the Korean Elle Girl magazine. The program began airing in early October.[9] In late 2008, the group also participated in the SM Town Live '08 concert along with other SM Town artists.

2009: Gee, Genie and other activities

On December 26, 2008, posters of the Girls' Generation members wearing roller-skates were posted up in various locations around Seoul. SM Entertainment's phone-lines were blocked up by callers asking whether the posters were for sale and the company asked fans to stop taking the posters down for personal use.[10] Three days later on December 29, the group's management stated that the posters were indeed teaser posters and that the group would soon release their first EP, The First Mini Album – Gee the following month in January 2009.[11]
A teaser video was released in January 2009 and the first single Gee released soon after. Gee was met with instant popularity, topping Cyworld's hourly music chart on the release day.[12] The song also went #1 on all major digital music charts within two days.[13] The music video set a record on release, garnering 1 million views on GomTV in under a day. The music video became the first to reach "Diamond Track" status on GomTV after breaking the 5 million view mark on January 16. The music video now has over 40,000,000 views on YouTube, snatching the spot for the most viewed video in Korea.[14]
The group began its album promotion in January 2009 on MBC Show! Music Core where they sang their new lead single Gee and the track Himnae (Way To Go), another song from their mini-album.[15] Gee went on to become a phenomenal hit, breaking the record for consecutive no.1 wins on Music Bank with 9 consecutive wins, as well as receiving a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo. The track also showed strength on other charts, topping the Mujikon, Melon and M.Net charts for 8 consecutive weeks, the Dosirak chart for 7 weeks, the Muse chart for 6 weeks and the Baksu chart for 4 weeks.[16][17]
After a short break, SM Entertainment announced that the group would be back with a new mini-album sporting a "Marine Girl" concept. The new single was to be titled Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) (소원을 말해봐 (Genie), literally "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)"); with the full mini album being released digitally on June 22, 2009.[18][19] The group started their promotional activities on June 26, 2009, recording KBS's Music Bank.[20] The performance was followed by follow-up comeback performances on MBC's Music Core and SBS's Inkigayo on June 27 and 28, 2009. The physical release of Genie was delayed by SM Entertainment in order to redo the album art, and was released 4 days later on June 29, 2009.[18]
The track proved to be a success as it conquered various music sites like Melon, Dosirak, MNet, Bugs and it was No.1 on the weekly charts and SKT ringtone weekly charts of the first week of July.[21] The mini-album sold an estimated 50,000+ copies in its first week after released (almost double the numbers from the first-week sales of Gee), an unusual feat for any Korean girl group.[22]
Their first No.1 award for Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) was on KBS Music Bank on July 10, 2009.[23][24] Their second award was claimed on SBS's Inkigayo on July 12, 2009, and their third on the 16th on the same show.[25] The group finished up promoting for Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) in August 2009.

Later in January, SM Entertainment confirmed the release of Oh!, the group's second full-length album to be released on January 28.[26] The lead single Oh!, was digitally released on January 25 with the music video being released two days later.[27] The song proved to be popular topping various charts upon release.[28] On January 30, the group started promotions with the recording of MBC's Show! Music Core.[29] The broadcast of the performance experienced a blackout near the end, to which MBC made the whole performance available online in response.[30] With 'Oh!', the group went on to win 5 consecutive K-charts on KBS Music Bank, as well as achieving a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo.[31] 'Oh!' also went on to win Music Bank's half-year K-chart, coming in at 2nd on Hanteo's first half album sales chart,[32] and also winning the end-of-year K-chart, proving to be the most successful release of the year.[citation needed] The music video also proved to be popular, ranking as the number one most viewed YouTube video in Korea by the end of 2010. It was also #1 in Hong Kong and made the top 10 in both the Taiwan and Japan rankings.[33]
Starting from March 11, 2010, photos of the members were released online showcasing a dark concept, dubbed "Black SoShi".[34] A teaser video was released on March 16, with the new single Run Devil Run being released as a digital single on March 17.[32][35] The music videos for both "Oh!" and "Run Devil Run" made it into GOMTV's 2010 First Half Top 10 ranking, the group having attracted over 13 million views in 6 months combined.[36]
Mid-June, it was announced that the group had signed contracts in May, and would begin working under Universal Music Japan's record label Nayutawave Records for their Japanese promotions, with their first Japanese single expected to be released in September 2010.[37][38][39] Girls' Generation began promotion in Japan in August. "少女時代到来~初来日記念盤~" (Girls' Generation's Arrival ~ First Time in Japan Commemoration Disc ~), a DVD featuring seven of the group's music videos as well as special bonus footage was released on August 11, with the special edition of the DVD containing a pink glowstick as well as a pass to the Girls' Generation debut at the Tokyo Ariake Colliseum on August 25.[40] According to Universal Music Japan, the DVD had reached considerable success even before physical release, the pre-orders having sold out.[41] In the first week after release, the DVD sold 23,000 copies, making no.4 on the weekly DVD Oricon ranking and no.3 on the weekly music DVD ranking,[42] making Girls' Generation the first female k-pop group to make the Oricon DVD Top-5 ranking.[43] SNSD’s First Photobook, “So Nyuh’” was estimated at 1.6 Billion Won.[44]
Amidst their Japanese activities, the group also participated in the SMTown Live '10 World Tour alongside their label-mates on August 21 at Seoul Jamsil Olympic Stadium.[45] And then in Shanghai and Los Angeles on later dates.[46]
On August 25, the group held their first showcase in Tokyo Ariake Colliseum.[47] With an initial 10,000 fans invited, it was reported to be the most large-scale plan for a Korean artist debuting in Japan.[40] However, due to high number of expected attendees, the group's management announced that the showcase would take place three times in the same day rather than once to accommodate the estimated 20,000 fans.[48] The group sang 5 of their Korean tracks at each of the showcases, the total number of attendees over all three shows estimated to be at least 22,000.[49] At this showcase, the Genie Japanese music video was also revealed publicly for the first time, the teaser having been released a few days prior on August 20.[50]
Their Japanese debut single Genie peaked at the #5 spot on the same day of its release on the Oricon Charts and later rose to the #2 position some time later, earning the group a #4 position on the Oricon weekly ranking.[51][52][53] The group also hit the number #1 spots on Japan iTunes' music video chart and both the Rekochoku daily video clip chart and incoming movie daily ranking chart a day later.[2] With pre-orders amounting to 80,000, the single sold an estimated 45,000 copies in the first week after release.[54][55] The single also placed high on Japan's Billboard chart, ranking #4 on the comprehensive Hot 100 chart, #5 on the Hot Single Sales Chart and #1 on the Hot Top Airplay chart.[51] On October 20, 2010, the group released their second Japanese single, Gee.[56][57] The popularity of the two singles saw the group receive acknowledgments from Japanese rankings websites toward the end of 2010, including the "Rookie Album of the Year" from Japan iTunes and the "Best Single Award" from BigGlobe Music Awards.[58][59][60][61]
A week after the release of their Japanese single, the group released their third Korean mini-album, Hoot on October 27, 2010, consisting of five tracks.[62] The music video for the lead single, Hoot, was released on October 28.[63] Girls' Generation commenced their promotional activities with a comeback stage on KBS's Music Bank on October 29.[64] "Hoot" quickly rose to the top of the charts and received the #1 spot numerous times on music shows, proving to be another successful release for the group.[65][66][67][68] The group simultaneously promoted "Hoot" and "Gee" in Korea and Japan respectively, participating in Japanese music broadcasts such as the FNS Music Festival, where they performed their two Japanese singles, Gee and Genie on December 4.
On December 22, 2010, "Hoot" was repackaged with additional tracks from previous albums and released in Japan. The release rose to the #2 position on the Oricon charts and selling 21,000 copies on the first day, faring surprisingly well considering the track itself is entirely in Korean.[69]

The group also became the first ever girl group to have both a Disk Daesang and Digital Daesang, having received the latter in 2009 for their hit Gee.[3] On December 15, 2010, the group attended the Melon Music Awards winning the Best Dressed Singer award, Hot Trend Song award for their latest song, "Hoot", as well as the Artist of the Year award.
